Rotary screen printing
About the Technique
Rotary Screen Printing is a specialised decoration method designed for cylindrical and slightly conical products, where the image is applied as the item rotates around its axis.
The ink passes through a fine mesh stencil, and the product moves in perfect synchronisation, resulting in smooth, consistent coverage with strong colour density and lasting durability.
Each colour is printed separately, allowing up to three Pantone-matched colours with precise alignment.
Once applied, the inks are cured at controlled temperatures, ensuring resistance to abrasion, scratching, and washing.
This technology is ideal for bottles, cups, and cylindrical containers, where the design wraps partially around the surface (up to 270°) without visible edges or overlaps.
Advantages
- Accurate printing on curved surfaces with vivid colours
- Up to 3 Pantone colours with perfect registration
- High resistance to moisture, scratching, and wear
- Smooth glossy or matte finish for a professional look
- Consistent quality for medium and large production runs
- Excellent coverage on metal, glass, ceramics, and plastic
Ideal Products
- Metal and aluminium bottles
- Thermoses, travel mugs, and insulated tumblers
- Glass and reusable plastic cups
- Cosmetic bottles, jars, and tubes
- Food, beverage, and supplement packaging
- Gift sets and corporate items with cylindrical shapes
This technique delivers a precise and durable logo that follows the shape of the product and creates a premium, refined appearance.
Materials
Metal – aluminium, stainless steel, anodised surfaces
Plastic – PP, PET, PVC, Tritan
Glass and ceramics – with pre-treated coating for better adhesion
Composite materials – suitable for durable and reusable products
Technical Specifications
Up to 3 colours per side (1+0, 2+0, 3+0)
Maximum coverage – 180° to 270° around the product
Print height – up to 90 mm (depending on product size)
Pantone colour matching with high accuracy
Thermal ink curing at approx. 50 °C
Best results on smooth, even surfaces
Environmental Impact
Rotary screen printing offers exceptional precision and durability but is not among the most environmentally friendly printing methods.
The process uses solvent-based inks and requires high curing temperatures, which lead to increased energy consumption and VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions.
Although the materials comply with European safety standards, the technique itself cannot be classified as eco-friendly.
When responsibly managed, however, its overall environmental impact remains low and within regulated limits.
